Franklin Cummings Tech now offers our Practical Electricity certificate at our new campus at the Gould Construction Institute in Billerica, MA. You can choose to start in September 2026 OR January 2027. The Billerica program is a full-time, daytime program that features the same experienced professors, time-tested curriculum, and strong student experience as our main campus in Roxbury. It provides the 600 hours of approved education required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Examiners of Electricians to sit for the Journeyman Electricians Licensing Exam.
Note: This certificate program meets the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Examiners of Electricians’ requirement of the completion of 600 hours of approved education in order to be eligible to sit for the Journeyman Electricians Licensing Exam. However, even after completing this program, if you want to become a licensed electrician, you must first work under the direct supervision of a Licensed Journeyman Electrician for a minimum of 8,000 hours. Those 8,000 hours can typically be completed in about four years.
The career pathway to becoming licensed is typically:
Apprentice -> Journeyperson -> Master Electrician
There is strong demand for technicians with electrical expertise for residential and commercial projects. Average salaries for these technicians in Massachusetts are 16% higher than the national average, because of the state’s strong innovation and clean energy sectors. Job security and an impressive salary make this a smart career decision. (Source: US Bureau of Labor Statistics)
